What is the role of a Nurse Practitioner?
As stated by Légis-Québec, depending on their specialty class, the role of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) combines both advanced nursing practice and nine professional activities involving high risks of harm:
Diagnosing diseases, prescribing diagnostic examinations, using diagnostic techniques that are invasive or present risks of harm, determining medical treatments, prescribing medications and other substances, prescribing medical treatments, using techniques or applying medical/invasive treatments or those presenting risks of harm, monitoring pregnancies, and administering the medication or substance allowing a person to obtain medical aid in dying under the Act respecting end-of-life care.
Which clientele does the Mental Health NP serve?
As stated by Légis-Québec, the Mental Health SNP (MH-SNP) performs professional activities with a clientele of all ages within the field of mental health, requiring primary, specialized, or ultra-specialized care.
The MH-SNP’s practice specifically targets individuals presenting with mental health problems, mental disorders, or those at risk of developing them.
